2019 has been an exciting year so far - new office, new website, and new projects getting underway. Today, we are pleased to share with you one of our newest projects.
Wasauksing First Nation has retained MME to complete the Wasauksing Swing Bridge Replacement Study. This swing bridge represents an integral transportation link for the community between Parry Sound and Wasauksing First Nation/Parry Island. The Wasauksing Swing Bridge is owned and maintained by the Government of Canada. The Government of Canada is funding this study through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
The goal of the study is to develop a comprehensive evaluation of the viable alternatives for the replacement of the existing bridge. The study will give consideration to the information developed through the previous studies and identify physical, social, and economic impacts related to the bridge replacement.
The purpose of the study is intended to:
review existing information
identify needs to update previous findings
explore efficiencies to improve upon previous study recommendations
produce alignment and other alternative options to replace the existing bridge
perform required data acquisition to properly evaluate each proposed replacement alternative impact
systematically evaluate replacement options
engage review agencies and stakeholders
recommend the preferred replacement solution to prepare for design and construction
We'll keep you updated as the project progresses, but you can also follow along on the project website here.
